wen

tl:dr: Quality takes time. We artists, we have time, we want to make quality stuff.

Wen – General

This is a long term project. We believe that surviving long term will outperform short term sprints. This is a project run by people who love what they do and want to keep running this project into the future. I genuinely enjoy most of the stuff entailed in this project. And I want to get around to creating the stuff that is involved here. Whether it be spiders, full body skellies, islands, meks, 3d printable toys etc.

Some projects can only exist if they keep bringing in revenue. We don’t have that problem here, so we can keep going and going.

I’d like to remind you that this isn’t a public company, this wasn’t an IPO or a fund raising event. This was a sale of collectible digital toys. The NFT’s are not an investment vehicle or a financial instrument, they do not promise voting rights to the holders etc.. ( selling financial instruments or securities is illegal without the proper process, every nft market place has this in their terms).

Creating quality products takes time. Sometimes we will create stuff, and we won’t like it, so it’ll be scrapped and we’ll try again. Sometimes we create stuff that we think is cool, but there is luke warm response from the community/twitter engagement. For example Black and gold BoneMek went well. But the Shoe inspired ones are not really doing that well in terms of likes. Maybe they just need some more work. I personally think they could be cool. But maybe we’ll keep them more limited.

Same thing with full body skellies. The ones we have now look cool, but not cool enough in our opinion. You know that feeling you get of wanting to buy skellies when you see them? I want these FBX files to give that feeling too.  Althought with recent developments, maybe “done is better than perfect” will be the approach we take with FBXfiles.

Pets – we thought sitting ones would be cool, but they just weren’t doing it for us. So we worked on developing some new body types.. I think we are making progress. We also made the head waaay more appealing.

Wen Dates?

No dates, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. Too many things in this space are unknown, too many things change, new information comes to light etc. Dates will be announced only after whatever we are shipping is ready to go.

You saw how the spider thing went.. And now it’s another thing we need to clean up. Why? Because someone insisted on dates, and we were new and inexperienced and listened.

Our priority here is not quantity or even speed. It’s delivering stuff that we are proud of. That people genuinly enjoy collecting.

So patience.

Wen Staking?

Staking in return for royalties or tokens sounded cool, and we have a way to technically implement it. But there are a number of issues with it.

1st seems mostly illegal. It would qualify our nft’s as securities. Which they are not. They are collectible toys. Seeing as we are pretty transparent about who we are, pissing off the largest Government on this planet does not seem wise.

Second, the concept of giving people “points” for holding has it’s merit. I have personally noticed that i sometimes play battlefield to get points, even though i don’t really need them to buy anything, it just feels nice to get rewarded for doing something.

But that’s where i run into the issue. Am i really enjoying it, or are my reward circuits just being hijacked? And that leads me to think that if we provide liquidity to these tokens we are basically paying people to collect our art. Which feels like i’m paying people to like my work. But more importantly, it turns it into a pyramid scheme. Why? Well because there are 2 places where that money can come from. A) original mint, B) royalties. Which means we are using money from new holders to pay early holders. Which is a pyramid scheme.

The whole idea of this project was that we no longer use our art to sell some other product. That’s why it appealed to us. Usually our art is being used to sell cereal, grocery stores, sneakers, medicine, advertising space, whatever. I wanted to get away from that. And this project seemed like that opportunity. And that’s what we are going to pursue.

The couple of versions of staking which seem to make sense to me are:

  1. Stake to get tokens ( we won’t provide liquidity). These tokens can then be used to mint future collections.
  2. Stake to get other nfts. ( e.g. stake skelly + spider, get island) But it looks like this is probably easier to do through tokens.

Again, we are not in a rush to get this implemented, we are exploring options, evaluating them, running tests etc..

Wen Marketing?

From what I’m seeing, most marketing of NFT’s is finding new collectors to provide exit liquidity for those that got in early.

When Illmind and TM88 promoted us, we got this thing, that people see big accounts mentioning us. They buy a skelly, and then try to flip it on the hype wave that they expect. If they miss the wave, or the wave doesn’t come, they dump it back below floor. ( as you know i spend a lot, perhaps too much time in discord talking to people, i just asked people in want to sell channel).

Currently the focus is on finding genuine collectors who enjoy the art and the process of collecting. This is unfortunately not a very fast process, but our holder count continues to steadily grow.

Extra reading

I watched these 2 videos recently, which really put a lot of my concerns about this space into perspective.

Airlines are no longer airlines, they are marketing vehicles for their points rewards systems. They’ve basically become banks and they don’t make profit from providing a good service of flying, they profit from getting people to sign up to credit cards essentially. This is sad, and this is what i feel people are trying to push me towards with boneworld. This will not happen.

I think it’s kinda sad that if you want to start your own airline, you aren’t competing on your ability to provide a good experience of flying, but your main point of competition is how well you force credit cards down peoples throats.

And this second video:

It’s more about the staking aspect. I want people to want to buy these because they are collecting, not because they are being manipulated through coins, rewards etc.. Figuring out a way to do this may take some time, but i think it’s a worthy pursuit. Exacerbating gambling addictions and using peer pressure to force people to buy isn’t something i really want to be a part of.

So with all this information, I just want to remind you how new this space is, how many projects are flat out rugs, how many projects have already run out of money, invested it into silly things that brought no return etc. We are basically in the dot com bubble of the internet.

Everyone is still figuring stuff out. Some project may look like they are going well right now, how long will they grow for? Are they just buying up their own floor to create the illusion of growth and dump bags on new comers?

Some projects are genuinely building huge things. We never planned for this, so we are adapting to the given situation as best we can. But Boneworld will never be a huge industrial complex of a project. We are artists, who enjoy creating things, and that’s mostly what we are sticking too. We are always exploring various techniques like staking to compliment that, but that’s not our main focus.

So once again, I urge you to only buy the NFT’s that you would enjoy collecting. These are not shares you’re investing with. The NFT’s have value in themselves. If they do not for you, then this isn’t the project for you.
